Adıyaman Museum
Description
The main museum where artifacts from the Neolithic Age to the Ottoman period, extracted from the Adıyaman and Kommagene region, are exhibited.
Story
Adıyaman Museum was established in 1982 with the mission of preserving and exhibiting the city's rich archaeological heritage. Due to the presence of many significant excavation sites from various periods in the region, such as Neolithic (settlements like Çatalhöyük and Hacılar), Chalcolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age, the museum's collection is quite diverse. Notably, sculptures, steles, and reliefs from the Kingdom of Commagene constitute some of the museum's most striking pieces. In addition, ceramics, glass artifacts, coins, and burial finds from the Roman and Byzantine periods are also exhibited. The museum's chronological and thematic arrangement offers visitors the opportunity to trace the cultural development of Adıyaman throughout history and the traces of civilizations that passed through the region. In the ethnography section, local handicrafts, traditional clothing, and everyday items are displayed, providing information about the recent cultural fabric of the area. The museum is an ideal starting point for gaining comprehensive preliminary knowledge about the region's history before visiting Mount Nemrut and other ancient cities.
