Its dominion by many different civilizations such as the Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Umayyads, Abbasids, Seljuks, and Ottomans has left distinct traces in the castle's architecture and cultural layers. Especially the extensive repairs and additions made during the Mamluk period shaped the castle's current silhouette. Thanks to its strategic location, the castle played a critical role in ensuring the security of Adıyaman and its surroundings. Although the castle, known to house cisterns, dungeons, and various structures, has suffered damage over time due to natural wear and wars, its surviving parts reflect the glory of the past.
