Story
The Adana Atatürk House Museum is a historical building located in the Seyhan district of Adana, where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stayed during his visits to Adana during and after the War of Independence. This magnificent mansion, estimated to have been built in the late 19th century, is also known as a place where Ziya Pasha, the then Governor of Adana, hosted his special guests. Atatürk's stay in this house during his historic visit to Adana on March 15, 1923, significantly increased the building's importance in our national history. It is believed that important decisions regarding the development of the region and the early years of the republic were made during Atatürk's stay here. After being used for various purposes for many years, the house was nationalized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1981, restored, and opened to visitors on May 19, 1981, under the name 'Atatürk Science and Culture Museum'. The museum not only preserves the memories of Atatürk's visits to Adana but also offers important clues about the social and cultural life of Adana during that period. It exhibits Atatürk's personal belongings, photographs, documents, and furniture from that era. On the upper floor, there are rooms arranged in accordance with the architecture of traditional Adana houses, local costumes, and examples of handicrafts. Visitors have the opportunity to experience both the spirit of the national struggle and the atmosphere of the early years of the republic in this museum. The museum's garden also offers a peaceful resting area suitable for Adana's warm climate. The building, which carries the characteristics of classic Adana mansions architecturally, stands out with its wooden carvings and large windows. The visiting experience is highly enriching for both history enthusiasts and anyone interested in our cultural heritage; it gives the feeling of traveling through time and following in Atatürk's footsteps. The museum's easily accessible location in the city center of Adana also provides great convenience for its visitors.
