Aladağ Square Plateau Historical Structures
Description
A historical group of structures reflecting traditional stone houses, fountains, and the settlement texture of the plateau in Meydan Plateau.
Story
Meydan Plateau is one of the most important plateaus where the people of Çukurova have migrated for centuries to escape the heat of Adana and established a temporary summer settlement. This area reflects the typical pastoral culture of the Taurus Mountains, featuring traditional houses built from winter-resistant stone, pastures, communal fountains, and storage areas. These structures are concrete examples of the region's socio-economic life and traditional architectural understanding. The houses are generally built with thick stone walls and small windows, which keeps the interior cool during the summer. Plateau life represents a cultural cycle where not only shelter is provided but also economic activities such as livestock farming, cheese, and yogurt production are carried out. The historical texture of Meydan Plateau continues to preserve the region's cultural heritage to some extent today.
