Belemedik Train Station and Nature Area
Description
The historic station, which is the center of the Baghdad Railway construction, is famous for its German-owned buildings and natural beauties.
Story
Belemedik is a unique area that was established as an 'German town' for German engineers and workers during the construction of the challenging route of the Baghdad Railway that crosses the Taurus Mountains. Located in the valley through which the Çakıt Stream flows, this region has been used as the logistical and administrative center for railway tunnels and structures like the Varda Bridge. Here, not only station buildings but also a hospital, school, church, houses for German officials, and engineering offices were constructed. Even under the harsh conditions of World War I, railway construction continued in Belemedik, which carries the industrial and cultural heritage of this period. Today, some of the station buildings still stand, and the valley has become a popular nature tourism and camping area, combining its natural beauty with historical remnants. The colorful flowers that bloom in the spring (especially wild tulips) and the sound of the Çakıt Stream make this a peaceful escape.
