Karataş Harbiş Beach and Lagoons
Description
A tourism and nature conservation area with wide beaches and natural lagoons on the Mediterranean coast.
Story
Karataş Harbiş Beach has one of the longest and widest beaches in Adana. The area is important not only from a tourist perspective but also ecologically. The lagoons and wetlands stretching along the coast are part of the Akyatan and Yumurtalık lagoon systems and are located on the migratory route for resting and feeding migratory birds. It hosts hundreds of bird species, especially in the spring and autumn months. Another critical importance of the beach is that it serves as a significant nesting area for endangered sea turtles (Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas). The beach and its surroundings provide a space for the local community to enjoy the sea and have picnics during the summer months, while also being a sensitive area for the preservation of ecological balance. This intersection point between the lagoons and the sea offers a peaceful environment with high biodiversity.
