Story

Magarsus was one of the most important port cities in the Cilicia region and particularly stood out as a major trade center during the Hellenistic period. The city's most well-known structure is its magnificent theater, which dates back to the Hellenistic period and was repaired during the Roman period. Additionally, remnants of a stadium and city walls can also be seen in the city. The ancient fame of Magarsus has been reinforced by tales of one of Alexander the Great's commanders being buried here. The most significant cultural figure of the city is Mopsos, famous for his prophecies. The stadium in Magarsus demonstrates how vibrant the sports and social life was during that period. The city was important not only commercially but also militarily due to its strategic location by the sea. Today, the ancient city offers visitors traces of the past with its seaside ruins and has an impressive view, especially at sunset.
