Tekir Plateau Historical Houses
Description
Traditional stone and wooden plateau houses located near the historical Taurus passes in Pozantı.
Story
Tekir Plateau, an important plateau of the Taurus Mountains, has a strategic location due to its proximity to critical transportation routes such as the historical Silk Road and the Baghdad Railway. In this region, where the tradition of pastoralism is still preserved, there are historical houses that carry local architectural features. These houses are generally built with a mixture of stone and wood, are two stories high, and have wide balconies. The purpose is to protect from the cold in winter and to provide coolness in summer. The historical texture of Tekir Plateau presents a 'summer town' appearance where the people of Çukurova seek refuge during the summer months, maintaining traditional lifestyles and neighborly relations. The streets and fountains where the houses are located form concrete examples of plateau architecture and social structure.
