Story
Ziya Pasha (1829–1880) is one of the most important poets of the Tanzimat literature and also an influential statesman of the era. He took on the role of Governor of Adana and provided significant services to the city during this period. Particularly known for the line "The mirror of a person is their actions, not their words," Pasha passed away in Adana in 1880 while in office. He was buried in a small park (today's Ziya Pasha Park) located right next to the Ulu Mosque. His grave has a simple yet elegant Ottoman inscription style and continues to exist as a tranquil corner in the middle of the park. His presence in Adana signifies deep traces in the city's cultural and intellectual history, as well as its commercial history. Even today, his grave is visited by literature enthusiasts and local history researchers.
