Story

The Chief Command History National Park is a vast area that encompasses the lands where the Great Offensive (August 26, 1922), the most critical phase of the Turkish War of Independence, was planned, managed, and initiated. The National Park is located within the borders of Şuhut and Sinanpaşa districts of Afyonkarahisar and covers an area of approximately 40,000 hectares. The primary purpose of the park is to preserve the traces of the struggle for independence fought on these lands and to honor the memory of our martyrs. Within the park, the **Şuhut Atatürk House**, where Chief Commander Mustafa Kemal Pasha established his headquarters and made final preparations before the offensive, and the **Kocatepe** monument are the most significant points. Kocatepe is the site where the Great Offensive officially began, and it features a monument and a martyrdom site where the famous photograph of Chief Commander Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was taken at its summit. The spiritual atmosphere and historical significance here are extremely impressive for visitors. The park area also includes the Victory Monument, martyrdom sites, memorial locations, and traces of trenches from the war. The National Park is noteworthy not only for its historical significance but also for its natural beauty, rich flora, and fauna. It is a sacred area where you can experience the founding philosophy of the Republic of Turkey and the spirit of independence in the most tangible way.
