Story
Located in the heart of Afyonkarahisar, the Imaret Bathhouse, also known as Gedik Ahmet Pasha Bathhouse, is one of the significant examples of civil architecture from the Ottoman Empire period. It was built in the late 15th century by Gedik Ahmet Pasha, one of the important viziers during the reign of Bayezid II. Along with other structures within the same complex, such as the Imaret Mosque and madrasah, it played a central role in the social and cultural life of its era. The bathhouse exhibits all the characteristics of classical Ottoman bath architecture, consisting of cold (changing room), warm, and hot sections. It stands out with its high domes, spacious and airy interiors, and elegant decorations. Especially the navel stone (gobek tasi) and marble basins (kurnas) in the hot section beautifully reflect the bath culture. Although the structure has undergone various restorations over the years, its original architecture has largely been preserved. Still in service today, the bathhouse attracts both locals and tourists. Visitors have the opportunity to experience traditional Turkish bath culture while tracing the footsteps of the past within the bathhouse's stone walls. The warm steam and mystical atmosphere of the bathhouse offer visitors both physical and mental purification. Afyonkarahisar's...
