Maltaş Ancient Site, situated in a region connected to the Kayıhan district of Afyonkarahisar province, is an ancient settlement that has hosted various civilizations throughout history. Surface surveys and limited excavation works carried out in the region indicate that this area was actively used over a broad period, extending from the Early Bronze Age to the Roman and Byzantine eras. Particularly, structural remains and ceramic fragments believed to belong to the Roman period suggest that the area was an important settlement center at that time. The cultural significance of Maltaş is also closely related to the geopolitical position of the region; located in the interior of Anatolia, this area was situated on ancient trade routes and witnessed the interaction of different cultures. Architecturally, although there are no prominent structures remaining today, foundation remnants and wall traces offer clues about the size of the past settlement.
