Story
Misri Mosque is located in the Derviş Paşa neighborhood, in the city center of Afyonkarahisar. Although the exact construction date of the mosque is unknown, it is believed to date back to the Ottoman period. The reason it is popularly known as Misri Mosque is due to a legend that stones brought from Egypt were used in its construction. The architecture of the building reflects the characteristics of classical Ottoman mosque architecture. The rectangular-planned mosque has a single dome and a single minaret. Cut stone and brick were used in its construction. The interior of the mosque has a simple appearance, but the intricate craftsmanship on the mihrab (prayer niche) and minbar (pulpit) is remarkable. Especially the stone carvings and Kufic inscriptions around the mihrab reflect the aesthetic understanding of the period. Although the mosque has undergone various repairs over time, it has largely preserved its original architectural texture. Misri Mosque, which holds an important place in the historical fabric of Afyonkarahisar, continues to be used as a place of worship and welcomes visitors as part of the city's cultural heritage.
