Story
Pasha Mosque, located in the heart of Afyonkarahisar, is one of the significant works that bear witness to the city's rich history. The mosque is estimated to have been built in the 15th century, during the Ottoman period. Although there are different accounts regarding its exact construction date and patron, it is generally accepted that it was built by Hızır Pasha, the Sanjak-bey of Karahisar. For this reason, it is also known as 'Hızır Pasha Mosque' among the public. The structure exhibits the simple yet impressive features of classical Ottoman architecture. The main prayer area of the rectangular mosque is supported by wooden pillars and covered with a wooden ceiling. Although the interior decorations have been renewed with restorations over time, efforts have been made to preserve its original spirit. The carvings on the mihrab and minbar are particularly noteworthy. The mosque's minaret is made of cut stone, has a single balcony (şerefe), and possesses a very elegant appearance.
