Story
The Stone Madrasah is an important part of Afyonkarahisar's historical fabric and is also known as the Gedik Ahmet Pasha Madrasah. The structure was built between 1472 and 1478 in the late 15th century, during the rise of the Ottoman Empire, by Gedik Ahmet Pasha, one of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror's viziers. Gedik Ahmet Pasha was also an important statesman who left many charitable works in Afyonkarahisar. The madrasah is a beautiful example of classical Ottoman architecture. It consists of student rooms, classrooms, and arcades arranged around a large courtyard. Serving as an important educational institution of its time, the Stone Madrasah was a center of knowledge and wisdom for hundreds of years, educating many scholars. The use of cut stone in the building's architecture earned it the name 'Stone Madrasah'. Its simple yet magnificent facade, the rich stone carvings and inscriptions above the main gate, reflect the aesthetic understanding of the period. Today, the madrasah has been faithfully restored and hosts various cultural events, exhibitions, and art workshops. Visitors can trace the footsteps of the past while strolling through its courtyard, observe the intricacies of stone craftsmanship, and experience Ottoman education…
