Description

The Tomb of Suleyman Shah is a religious structure of high historical and spiritual value, dedicated to Suleyman Shah, the grandfather of Osman Gazi, the founder of the Ottoman Empire.

Story

The Tomb of Suleyman Shah is dedicated to Suleyman Shah, the grandfather of Osman Gazi, the founder of the Ottoman Empire, and the father of Ertuğrul Gazi. The original location of the tomb was in Karakozak village, near Qal'at Ja'bar, which is now within Syrian borders. However, due to the threat of being submerged by the waters of the Tabqa Dam built on the Euphrates River, the tomb and the surrounding Turkish land were relocated to a newly designated position in 1973, following an agreement between Turkey and Syria. Later, due to security concerns arising from the Syrian Civil War, it was moved once again in 2015 to a safe area near the village of Eşme in Syria. These relocations demonstrate that the tomb is more than just a burial site; it is an important cultural heritage symbolizing the spiritual values of the Turkish nation and its attachment to its land. Architecturally, the tomb has a simple yet impressive structure. It typically features a rectangular plan, covered with a dome or roof, and enclosed by walls within a courtyard. Inside the structure, the sarcophagus of Suleyman Shah is located. Beyond being just a monumental tomb, it offers visitors a journey into the depths of history...
