Description

The Amasya Saraydüzü Barracks Building is a structure of historical and cultural significance, where important steps of the National Struggle were taken.

Story

The Amasya Saraydüzü Barracks Building is a historical site where the Amasya Circular, one of the cornerstones of the Turkish War of Independence, was prepared and declared. Built in the late 19th century, this barracks building was used for military purposes during the last periods of the Ottoman Empire, but gained its greatest importance during the years of the National Struggle. Mustafa Kemal Pasha and his comrades-in-arms came to Amasya in 1919 and stayed in this building, announcing the Amasya Circular, which ignited the torch of independence for the Turkish nation, to the whole world. This circular was one of the first concrete steps towards establishing an independent Turkish state based on national sovereignty. The current function of the building is to preserve this historical heritage and pass it on to future generations. Serving as a Culture Center and National Struggle Museum, the structure has a rich collection that makes visitors feel the atmosphere of that period. The museum exhibits original texts of the Amasya Circular, personal belongings of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, military equipment and photographs from the period. In addition, there are informative panels and interactive presentations describing the political and social structure of the period. The architecture of the building reflects the Ottoman barracks architecture...
