Description

This statue in Amasya, immortalizing the legend of Ferhat and Şirin, symbolizes love and sacrifice.

Story

The Ferhat and Şirin Statue represents one of the most beautiful examples of Amasya's rich cultural heritage and folk tales that have continued throughout history. According to the legend, Ferhat, a master decorator, falls in love with Şirin, the sister of Mehmene Banu, the Sultan of Amasya. Mehmene Banu opposes this love and demands an impossible task from Ferhat: to bring water to Amasya by carving through mountains to quench the city's thirst. Ferhat, empowered by his love, undertakes this arduous task and begins to carve through the mountains. However, Mehmene Banu, jealous of Ferhat's success, tells him the lie that Şirin has died. Unable to bear this news, Ferhat throws his pickaxe into the air and dies when it falls on him. Upon hearing the news of Ferhat's death, Şirin rushes to his side and, seeing Ferhat's lifeless body, kills herself with the same pickaxe. This touching love story has lived in the heart of Amasya for centuries and has become an integral part of the region's identity. Today, the Ferhat and Şirin Statue in Amasya is an important monument that embodies this legend and reminds visitors of this great love. Beyond being just a work of art, the statue is considered a symbol of resistance, sacrifice, and eternal love. Visitors to this site...
