Story
Kumacık Bathhouse is one of the important architectural structures from the Ottoman period that has survived to the present day, located in the historical center of Amasya, on the banks of the Yeşilırmak River. Although the exact construction date of the building is unknown, it is thought to date back to the 15th or 16th century, based on its architectural features and the general historical development of the region. Amasya, during the Ottoman Empire, was not only an important cultural and educational center but also a city where princes served as governors, hosting many permanent works such as bathhouses, mosques, and bridges. Kumacık Bathhouse is an important structure built during this period to meet the cleanliness and social needs of the city's people. The bathhouse, which bears the characteristics of classical Ottoman bath architecture, consists of cold, warm, and hot sections. Especially the domes and lighting system in the hot section have aesthetic details reflecting the architectural understanding of the period. The stone craftsmanship and niche details used in the interior of the bathhouse offer a simple yet functional beauty. In the past, beyond being just a place for cleansing, it was also a place where social interactions took place, conversations were held, and traditional rituals were maintained...
