Story

Çıngırdaklı Tepe Mounds, located within the borders of Ankara's Etimesgut district, are among the important archaeological sites that have been settled since prehistoric times. These mounds bear traces from a wide period, starting from the Neolithic Age and extending through the Chalcolithic, Early Bronze Age, Hittite, Phrygian, Roman, and Byzantine periods. The strategic location and fertile lands of the region have made it an attractive settlement for various civilizations throughout history. Surface surveys and limited excavations have revealed the existence of rich cultural stratification in the mounds. Particularly, pottery fragments and architectural remains from the Early Bronze Age provide valuable information about the social structure and way of life of that period. Finds from the Hittite period indicate that the region might have been an important center on the western borders of the Hittite Empire. Traces of Phrygian settlements are important for understanding the spread of the Phrygians in Anatolia and their cultural influences in the region. Ceramics and structural remains from the Roman and Byzantine periods also show that these mounds have a continuous settlement history. Çıngırdaklı Tepe Mounds...
