Castle
Description
A magnificent structure located in the heart of Ankara, bearing witness to the city's history.
Story
Ankara Castle is one of the oldest settlements in the city and has hosted many civilizations throughout history. Although the exact date of its initial construction is unknown, it is believed to have a history dating back to the Hittites. Many civilizations such as the Phrygians, Lydians, Persians, Galatians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans used the castle due to its strategic location and left their marks on it. It underwent significant repairs, especially during the Roman and Byzantine periods, and acquired its current main outlines during the Seljuk period. The castle consists of inner and outer walls. While the inner castle was mostly used for administrative and defensive purposes, the outer castle became a residential area with the expansion of the city. Today, within the inner castle, there are traditional Ankara houses, handicraft shops, cafes, and restaurants. This has transformed the castle from just a historical structure into a vibrant cultural and living space. Visitors can trace the footsteps of the past while wandering through the narrow streets, enjoy the panoramic view of Ankara, and taste local delicacies. The castle has also become one of the symbols of Ankara and represents the city's cultural identity...
