Pirinç Han is one of the important examples of civil architecture reflecting the historical and cultural fabric of Ankara. Although its exact construction date is unknown, it is believed to have been built during the Ottoman period and was one of the places where trade flourished for many years. Hans (caravanserais) in the Ottoman Empire were structures that served both as accommodation and trading centers, playing a central role in the economic and social life of cities. Pirinç Han is a beautiful example of this tradition. In the past, this han was a frequent stop for caravans and merchants, a center where goods from different cities were bought and sold, offering accommodation and fostering cultural exchange. It is thought to have taken its name, Pirinç (meaning rice), because it was particularly prominent in rice trade, although it is known to have hosted the trade of many different products in general. Architecturally, it bears the characteristics of typical Ottoman hans; it has a courtyard structure and is usually two stories high.
