Story

Suluhan Caravanserai, located in the heart of Ankara, is an important structure that has survived from the depths of history to the present day. Estimated to have been built in the early 17th century during the Ottoman Empire, this caravanserai showcases the vibrancy of the trade routes of that era and the strategic importance of Anatolia. Khans and caravanserais were structures at the center of economic and social life, allowing merchants and travelers to stay safely, store their goods, and conduct their trade. Suluhan successfully fulfilled this function, hosting many caravans, travelers, and merchants for centuries. Architecturally, it presents a beautiful example of typical Ottoman caravanserai architecture. It was designed as a whole with its large courtyard, arcaded and vaulted rooms surrounding it, stables, and a small mosque.
