Altınbeşik Cave
Description
It is a famous karst cave that has one of the largest underground lakes in Turkey.
Story
Altınbeşik Cave is a unique natural formation located near Ürünlü Village within the borders of İbradı district, and it is considered one of the most valuable caves in Turkey from both scientific and touristic perspectives. The cave system is notable for its multi-layered structure and the large underground lake it contains. This lake is one of the largest known underground water bodies in Turkey. The cave is approximately 2.5 kilometers long, but only a portion of it is open to tourist visits. It is possible to take a short trip on special boats over the lake inside, and this experience further enhances the cave's mystical atmosphere. Altınbeşik Cave has emerged from the shaping of karstic structures over thousands of years through natural processes. Stalactites, stalagmites, massive columns, and natural arches transform the interior of the cave into an underground palace. Scientific research has suggested that there may be traces of prehistoric human activities in some parts of the cave; however, these areas are closed to visitors due to their sensitivity. According to legend, shepherds who entered the cave in ancient times would see light games resembling reflections of gold, and the cave's name comes from this 'golden cradle' description. The area where the cave is located also hosts the rich flora and fauna of the Taurus Mountains. Wild goats, eagles, and endemic plant species can be observed in this region. Although the roads are somewhat winding and mountainous, visitors who reach the cave experience an unforgettable adventure that integrates both nature and the underground atmosphere. Altınbeşik is one of the most impressive examples of the rich natural heritage that Antalya possesses beyond its sea tourism.
