Story

The Ancient City of Pednelissos is a quiet Pisidian settlement located at the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, north of Serik, and still hidden within nature today. Although there are very few written sources about the city's history, archaeological studies indicate that the settlement has been active since the 4th century BC. Due to its geographical location, Pednelissos carries both Pamphylian and Pisidian cultural influences, reflecting the multicultural structure of the region. The city features many structures, including an agora, temple terraces, remnants of walls, and a necropolis area. In particular, the massive walls built on giant rock blocks demonstrate how strategically important the city was for defense. It is known that the people of Pednelissos also relied on hunting for their livelihood due to the surrounding forested areas and mountains, in addition to agriculture and livestock. According to local legends, there is a large rock known as the 'Stone of the Gods' to the east of the city, and the people used to perform fertility ceremonies around this stone in the past. During the Roman period, Pednelissos experienced a period of economic vitality due to its proximity to trade routes in the region; however, it gradually lost its importance during the Byzantine period. The main reason the city is still considered relatively untouched today is the steep and rugged nature of the transportation routes. Therefore, Pednelissos is a perfect destination for those looking to escape crowded tourist spots and experience history intertwined with nature.
