Description

It is an ancient city known as the homeland of Opramoas, one of the important cities of Lycia.

Story

Rhodiapolis Ancient City is a settlement located in the hilly area north of Kumluca and is known as one of the important cities of the Lycian civilization. The city is particularly recognized for the famous philanthropist Opramoas, who lived during the Roman period. Opramoas provided assistance to many cities following the earthquakes that occurred in the Lycia region, financing schools, baths, and other public structures. The inscriptions found in the city today carry a historical record of his generosity to the present day. The theater, council building, bath structures, and necropolises of Rhodiapolis are still visible. Since the city is established on a high hill, it has provided both a defensive advantage and a commanding view of the surroundings. While walking on the stone-paved roads of the ancient settlement, it is possible to imagine the merchants who once entered the city, the gathering places of the people, and the ceremonial structures. Rhodiapolis attracted the interest of European travelers in the 19th century and has been visited by many archaeologists. The artifacts uncovered as a result of archaeological studies are exhibited in the Antalya Museum. The region where the city is located also draws attention for its natural beauty; the vegetation at the foothills of the Taurus Mountains and the clean air offer visitors a peaceful environment. Today, Rhodiapolis provides a tranquil yet impressive ancient city experience, away from large tourist crowds. When you examine the inscriptions that tell the story of Opramoas's life, you once again feel how important values such as solidarity and philanthropy were even in ancient times.
