Ancient City of Seleukeia (Lybre)
Description
It is an ancient city from the Roman period, known for its hidden location within the forest.
Story
Seleukeia (Lybre) Ancient City is a mysterious Roman settlement hidden among the forests to the north of Manavgat. Although it is thought that the establishment of the city is related to the Seleucid dynasty, there are differing opinions among archaeologists regarding its exact date. However, the architectural remains indicate that there was a significant urban development during the Roman period. One of the most striking structures of the city is the remaining colonnaded streets and the agora complex. These stone structures, almost completely enveloped by nature, give visitors the feeling of being on an ancient film set. Over time, the roots of trees have intertwined with the stones, both preserving the structures and creating a mysterious atmosphere. The theater, temple ruins, bath structures, and necropolis area all prove that Seleukeia was an important settlement center. According to a legend told by the local people, the city was governed by a very wealthy merchant, and due to its strategic location within the forest, this hidden place was preferred to protect against pirates. The city, which provided drinking water through channels coming from the mountains, stood for a long time but lost its significance after the Arab incursions in the 7th century and was abandoned. Today, thanks to its dense forest cover, the city is a unique area for exploration for both hikers and photographers. Its distance from crowded tourist routes offers visitors a quiet experience intertwined with history and nature. The ivy clinging to the stone walls, the moss covering the trunks, and the sounds of the forest further enhance the mystical atmosphere of the ancient city.
