The Antiphellos Ancient Theatre is a special place that can be reached in just a few minutes on foot from the center of modern Kaş, yet it instantly transports you thousands of years back in time. The theatre of Antiphellos, one of the important port cities of Lycia, is considered one of the most romantic archaeological sites in the Mediterranean, with its seating rows facing the sea. The theatre, which is believed to have a capacity of approximately 4,000 people, was built around the 2nd century BC and underwent repairs during the Roman period. The absence of the stage building today leaves no obstruction to the sea view, so when you sit on the theatre steps, you are greeted by an endless blue horizon. In ancient times, both religious ceremonies and entertaining shows, games, and meetings were held here. The sounds rising from the port of the city reached the stone steps of the theatre, where people gathered in the evening coolness at sunset. Today, the theatre is a destination for peaceful morning walks in Kaş, scenic breaks in the afternoon, and occasional concerts and events. Especially on summer evenings, sitting on the stone steps to watch the sunset ranks high on the list of things to do in Kaş. As the sun sets behind Meis Island, the sky transforms into shades of orange and purple, and these colors, merging with the sea, reflect on the stones of the theatre. • The road from the center of Kaş to the theater is short but slightly uphill; it is better to proceed at a slow pace when going up with small children.
