Story
Beldibi Cave is situated as a natural rock shelter approximately 25 meters above sea level, in the Beldibi area of Kemer district, Antalya. The cave was discovered in 1956 and introduced to the scientific world through excavations carried out between 1959 and 1960. As a result of the excavations, a continuous settlement layer dating from the Upper Paleolithic Period to the Mesolithic Period was identified in the cave. This makes Beldibi Cave one of the most important prehistoric settlement sites in Turkey. Research conducted in the cave revealed that the people of that period lived by hunting and gathering, used stone tools, and drew various figures on the cave walls. Particularly, the schematic human and animal figures found on the cave walls provide important clues about the artistic and cultural life of the period. The stalactite and stalagmite formations inside the cave enhance its natural beauty and are also geologically interesting. Beldibi Cave offers a unique experience to its visitors with both its archaeological findings and natural structure.
