Green Canyon is a recreational area located in the Akseki district of Antalya, notable for its natural beauty and reservoir lake.
Story
Green Canyon is actually a natural and recreational area formed by the artificial lake created by the Oymapınar Dam and the surrounding canyons. The Oymapınar Dam, built on the Manavgat River between 1977 and 1984, is one of Turkey's important hydroelectric power plants. With the construction of the dam, the river valley was submerged, and this, combined with the unique geological structure of the canyons, formed today's Green Canyon. The region takes its name from the greenish color of its waters and the lush vegetation surrounding it. The reservoir lake covers an area of approximately 27 square kilometers, and its depth exceeds 100 meters in some places. This depth and the clarity of the water make the area attractive for water sports and boat tours. The forested areas at the foothills of the Taurus Mountains surrounding Green Canyon are home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Especially animal species such as wild goats, foxes, and eagles can be seen in the region. The formation of the region is entirely the result of modern engineering works, and rather than being a natural canyon, it is a combination of an artificial lake created by the dam and the canyons.
