Castle and Walls

Description

It is the historical harbor of Antalya, an old marina area surrounded by walls.

Story

Kaleiçi Marina is located at the foot of Kaleiçi, one of the oldest settlements in the heart of Antalya, and is one of the most valuable port areas reflecting the city's historical significance in Mediterranean trade. Thanks to its massive walls, the marina has served both as a defensive structure and as a center where merchant ships could safely anchor. The history of this port, which has a multi-layered structure dating back to the Ottoman, Seljuk, and even earlier Byzantine periods, goes back to the ancient times when Attaleia was founded. The stone stairs, remnants of ancient docks, and rock-carved storage areas that can still be seen in the port area today indicate that this place was not only a trading point but also the heart of the city's social life. According to legends, during the Seljuk period, the goods of merchant ships that docked at the port were first transported to the inns located at the upper part of the port and then distributed to the markets for sale. For this reason, the area around Kaleiçi Marina was one of the most bustling trade areas of the time. In the 19th century, the structure of the port began to be modernized, and with the Republican era, the marina took on a more touristic function. Today, the marina area is both the center of yacht tourism and a popular destination with its restaurants, cafes, and views. Especially at sunset, the red tones formed on the rocks and the reflections of light on the water create a unique atmosphere. Kaleiçi Marina, where history, the sea, and urban life intertwine, is a must-visit spot to understand the spirit of Antalya.
