Kaputaş Beach
Description
It is a small cove beach with turquoise color located between Kaş and Kalkan, at the foot of steep cliffs.
Story
Kaputaş Beach is like a hidden jewel of deep blue, located at one of the most dramatic points along the coastal road between Kaş and Kalkan, where a narrow valley meets the sea. As you round the bend on the roadside, the turquoise cove suddenly appears below, gracing many travel photos and social media posts. The beach consists of a small strip of sand and pebbles squeezed between high cliffs and a rapidly deepening clear sea. The narrow canyon behind it has been shaped by thousands of years of erosion, and occasionally, a small amount of fresh water emerges from within, enriching the sea's color tones even further. For many years, Kaputaş was known primarily as a tranquil spot by locals and campers, but in recent years, its increasing popularity has earned it a place on the lists of the world's "must-see beaches." Nevertheless, it remains one of the rare beaches that has largely preserved its natural beauty. To reach the beach, one must start from the parking area by the roadside and use a series of 150-200 steps; this descent and ascent can feel like a small workout, especially in hot weather. According to a local joke, those who enter the sea from Kaputaş "confess their sins on the steps" as they descend, wash themselves in the crystal-clear water, and come back out. The sudden depth of the sea can be a bit risky for non-swimmers; however, for good swimmers, it offers a magnificent experience that gives the feeling of open sea even in a short distance. Throughout the day, the color of the cove shifts from emerald to turquoise to deep blue, allowing you to capture a different shade each time you look.
Visit Tips
- Since the stairs to the beach are steep and long, especially in hot weather, take water with you and save energy for the climb back.
- In the summer season, going early in the morning provides a significant advantage due to the very limited parking space.
- It is recommended that those who do not swim well do not venture too far from the shore, as the sea deepens quickly.
- There are sunbed and umbrella areas operated by the municipality; if you wish, you can also sit in the free area by spreading your towel.
