Lara Sand Sculptures (Sandland)
Description
It is one of the largest open-air sand sculpture museums in the world.
Story
Lara Sand Sculptures, known as Sandland, is a giant open-air sand sculpture museum held annually in the Lara region of Antalya. Here, massive works created by professional sand sculptors from many parts of the world, using only water and specially compressed sand, are exhibited. The theme of the sculptures changes each year; sometimes they feature mythological heroes, sometimes important figures from world history, and at other times scenes from fantastical worlds appear before visitors. The heights of the sculptures can sometimes reach up to 6–7 meters, and the craftsmanship is as precise as stone carving. These temporary artworks are protected and reinforced with special mixtures to ensure they can be visited throughout the year. Sandland holds great significance in representing the artistic aspect of Antalya's tourist face. The works displayed here are not just a visual feast; they also provide visitors with information on a wide range of topics, from history to mythology. Night visits are also possible in the area, and when the sculptures are illuminated with colorful lights, a completely different atmosphere emerges. The sand sculptures in Lara have been held regularly since 2006 and are visited by thousands of people each year. They hold an important place among Antalya's cultural activities beyond the sun-sea-sand tourism. Through international competitions, workshops, and interactive events, Sandland creates an educational and entertaining space for both adults and children. This unique open-air museum, where art blends with nature, is an important point that complements the modern cultural fabric of Antalya.
