Natural Area

Description

It is the magnificent waterfall where the Düden River cascades from the cliffs into the Mediterranean, located within the city.

Story

Lower Düden Waterfall is a magnificent natural scene located on the cliffs to the east of Antalya city center, in the direction of Lara, where the waters of the Düden River flow directly into the Mediterranean Sea. Water cascading from the approximately 40-meter-high cliffs creates a loud roar and offers a view adorned with a rainbow, especially on clear days. The apartments and urban fabric rising behind the waterfall, combined with the deep blue sea in front, create a modern postcard image. This place is one of the best representations of the concept of "nature within the city" in Antalya. The Düden River actually originates from the inner regions, specifically the Upper Düden area, and disappears underground for a while; it then resurfaces to meet the sea at the Lara cliffs. This karstic system is a typical example of the region's geological structure. The area around Lower Düden has been arranged with parks, walking paths, and viewing terraces. You can observe the waterfall from land, or see it from the sea via boat tours departing from Kaleiçi Marina; viewed from the sea, the power of the water cascading from the cliffs and the silhouette of the park above appear much more dramatic. For the local people, this is a place for evening walks, enjoying the scenery, and proudly showing visitors, saying, "Look, this is our city." Especially at sunset, as the sun descends over the Mediterranean, the waterfall takes on a golden hue, and cameras start clicking non-stop. For those wishing to connect with nature without venturing far from the city's hustle and bustle, Lower Düden offers a few hours of respite.

Visit Tips

  • You can view the waterfall from both the observation areas within Düden Park and from the sea via boat tours.
  • Entry to the parking area is free; there are small kiosks and cafes at some observation terraces.
  • Especially in the summer months, the late afternoon hours are ideal for both coolness and sunset views.
  • When taking photos, be careful not to get too close to the barriers at the cliff edge, especially when walking with children, keep an eye on them.
