Description

It is an ancient city famous for its location intertwined with nature and its ruins from the Lycian period.

Story

Olympos Ancient City is one of the most important port cities of the Lycian civilization and is located in one of the most mystical regions of the Mediterranean. The name of the city derives from the nearby high mountain; it was believed to be the place where the gods lived in ancient times. The history of Olympos dates back to the 2nd century BC. Due to its location in an area with intense pirate activities, it was captured by pirates from time to time, but it regained peace after the Roman Empire took control of the region. The city has the appearance of a typical Lycian settlement, with its vast necropolis area, the ruins of a stone bridge that divides the river, sarcophagi, temples, and bath structures. One of the most important features of Olympos is the intertwining of nature and history; discovering the hidden stone walls among the trees is like wandering through an open-air labyrinth. Nearby Yanartaş (Chimera) is famous for its eternal fire in ancient times and was seen as an important part of the Olympos cult. The mosaics found in the bath structures indicate that the city had a rich culture of life. Over time, Olympos lost its significance and was abandoned; however, today it is a popular destination for both nature campers and history enthusiasts. It offers a unique atmosphere that combines the surrounding beach, nature, forest, and history.
