It is believed to have been an important settlement, especially during the Roman and Byzantine periods. Onobara's strategic location, situated on the transition route between the Lycian and Pamphylian regions, increased the city's commercial and military importance. Surface surveys in the city have identified remnants of city walls, foundations of residential structures, cisterns, and necropolis areas. The city walls, especially those located on the acropolis, reflect the architectural features of the period. The necropolis area contains rock-cut tombs and sarcophagi.
