Patara Ancient City, located near Kaş district of Antalya, is an ancient settlement known as the capital of the Lycian League and an important port city. With a deep-rooted history dating back to the 8th century BC, Patara hosted many civilizations throughout history thanks to its strategic location. It experienced great prosperity, especially during the Roman Empire period, becoming an important trade and cultural center. Patara also holds great importance in terms of Christian history; it is believed to be the birthplace of Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus). One of the most striking structures of the city is the Patara Lighthouse, considered one of the oldest standing lighthouses in the world. This lighthouse was built during the reign of Emperor Nero and is one of the engineering marvels of ancient times. Additionally, the impressive Bouleuterion (council building), where the Lycian League held its meetings and made important decisions, is also located in Patara. This structure provides important information about the functioning of ancient democracy.
