Description

It is a magnificent mountain waterfall formed by the streams originating from the Taurus Mountains, featuring two tiers.

Story

Uçansu Waterfall is an impressive natural beauty located in the interior of Antalya, at the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, named for the way the water appears to be 'flying.' This system actually consists of two separate tiers, referred to by the local people as Uçan 1 and Uçan 2. Water cascading from the upper tier falls from a height of approximately 70–80 meters, creating a pure white curtain of water as it flows over the steep cliffs. The lower tier has a wider basin, providing an environment where visitors can more easily approach the pond and cool off. The source of the waterfall is formed by the Havutlu and Bal streams; these streams are fed by the snow-covered peaks of the Taurus Mountains and flow particularly vigorously in the spring. The region has been favored for pastoralism and small-scale agriculture since ancient times due to its abundance of water; it is still possible to see traces of ancient migration routes along the surrounding paths. According to local tales, a girl from one of the Yörük tribes that once lived in the area lost her life during a sudden flood while waiting to meet her lover in front of the waterfall; since that day, it has been believed that the misty appearance of the waterfall is actually the spirit of the young girl. Today, Uçansu has become an indispensable route, especially for nature photographers, campers, and travelers seeking hidden corners. Although some of the roads leading to the waterfall are unpaved and occasionally challenging, the sound of rushing water, the cool air, and the lush surroundings make one forget all fatigue upon arrival. When you take a short break by the lake and dip your feet into the icy water, you truly feel that you are face to face with the 'elixir of life' of the Taurus Mountains.

Visit Tips

  • The last section of the road is uneven and stony in places; if possible, prefer a high-clearance vehicle or proceed slowly.
  • Since the area is generally limited in terms of facilities, it is recommended that you bring water and snacks with you.
  • In the spring period, the melting of snow waters causes the waterfall to flow more vigorously; towards the end of summer, the flow may decrease.
  • The rocky ground around the waterfall may be slippery; wear sturdy and closed shoes.
