Description

The waterfall located in a lush valley famous for its caves and hiking trails in the northern part of the city.

Story

Yukarı Düden Waterfall, although quite close to the city center of Antalya, is like a cool and shady oasis that transports you to a completely different world the moment you enter. At this point, where the Düden River drops about 15 meters down through a rocky crevice, the sound of the water, the chirping of birds, and the rustling of trees blend together to create a natural soundtrack. The cave that runs behind the waterfall offers visitors the opportunity to walk through a scene where the water flows like a curtain; from here, you can feel the droplets hitting your face like small crystals dancing with the light. Over the years, the area has been organized with walking paths, viewing terraces, picnic areas, and small cafes to meet the needs of visitors. However, especially if you go on weekday mornings, you will encounter a tranquil atmosphere dominated by nature. The vegetation around the waterfall reflects the rich diversity offered by the Mediterranean climate; ivy, moss, and dense greenery cover the rocks like a carpet. The waterfall provides frames that are very suitable for long exposure photography, and it has also become a popular backdrop for weekend getaways and wedding and engagement shoots for the local people. Although it is not directly related to a historical structure, the Düden system has played an important role in the modern development of Antalya in terms of the city's water resources and hydroelectric production. Today, Yukarı Düden is seen as a symbolic representation of both this natural cycle and the need to temporarily escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. During your visit, as the sound of the water clears your mind, you may forget the concept of time, even if just for a few hours.

Visit Tips

  • The waterfall is generally open for visits between 08:00 in the morning and 19:00 in the evening; a small fee is charged at the entrance.
  • Especially during the summer months, weekends can be quite crowded; for a peaceful experience, prefer weekdays or early morning hours.
  • Since the ground in the cave section may be wet and slippery, wear comfortable shoes with non-slip soles.
  • You can bring snacks and water with you since there are picnic areas; however, please be careful not to leave trash in nature.
