Story
Alinda Ancient City is one of the important cities of the ancient Carian region and is located within the borders of Karpuzlu district of Aydın. Dating back to the 4th century BC, Alinda is particularly known for providing refuge to Queen Ada of Caria during Alexander the Great's campaigns against the Persian Empire. Queen Ada supported Alexander from Alinda, thereby regaining control of Caria. The city became an important trade and defense center thanks to its strategic location. Structures such as the acropolis, theater, agora, stoa, and aqueducts reveal Alinda's splendor in ancient times. The acropolis is located at the highest point of the city and is surrounded by walls. From here, magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and mountains can be enjoyed. The theater is one of the best-preserved ancient theaters in Anatolia and has a capacity of approximately 5,000 people. The agora is believed to have been the center of the city's social and commercial life. Alinda maintained its importance during the Roman period and became an episcopal center during the Byzantine period. Today, Alinda Ancient City offers its visitors an atmosphere of ancient times and takes them on a journey into the depths of history, making it an important archaeological site.
