Story

Aydın’ın tarihi hazinelerinden biri olan Alinda Antik Kenti hakkındaki metnin İngilizce, Rusça ve Arapça çevirileri aşağıdadır: 1. English Translation Alinda: A Hidden Gem of Caria Located in the Karpuzlu district of Aydın, Alinda is one of the most significant Carian cities. It is reached via a 26 km road branching off at the 30th km of the Aydın-Muğla highway. While historical records are limited, according to Strabo, Ada—the daughter of Hecatomnus—sought refuge in Alinda in 340 BC after being exiled from Halicarnassus by her brother Pixodarus, making it her capital. For a period, the city was named Alexandria and adopted Greek culture. Maintaining its importance during the Roman period, Alinda minted its own coins until the 3rd century AD. In the Byzantine era, it served as an episcopal center under the Metropolitanate of Aphrodisias. The city is surrounded by well-preserved fortification walls built from local granite, supported by towers at intervals. Portions of the aqueducts that supplied the city with water still stand; the aqueduct west of the acropolis features round arches resting on four pillars. The most significant standing structure today is the Agora. This rectangular structure includes a three-story marketplace on its southern side, with the upper floor designed as a stoa. The theatre, situated on the southwestern slope of the acropolis, follows the natural terrain with a well-preserved cavea facing southeast. While the stage building is destroyed, the theatre reflects Hellenistic characteristics and was later modified by the Romans. The acropolis also contains the foundations of two temples. Carian-type sarcophagi scattered among the modern houses of Karpuzlu indicate that the necropolis was concentrated on the southern outskirts of the city.
