The Ancient Theater of Magnesia is one of the important structures of the ancient city of Magnesia ad Maeandrum, located on the banks of the Great Menderes River, within the borders of today's Germencik district of Aydın province. Although the founding date of the city dates back to the 4th century BC, the construction of the theater and its most brilliant period coincide with the Roman Empire era. The theater, thought to have been built especially in the 2nd century BC, took its present form with various repairs and additions in later periods. Magnesia Ancient Theater, in terms of its architectural structure, exhibits the characteristics of a typical Roman theater. It contains basic elements such as a semi-circular orchestra area, a cavea (audience section) consisting of tiered seating rows, and a stage building (skene).
