Story
Tralleis Ancient City is located north of the Menderes River, within the borders of the Efeler district of Aydın. Although the exact date of the city's foundation is unknown, it is believed to have become an important center in the Hellenistic period in the 3rd century BC. According to Strabo, it was founded by the Argives and Tralleians. The city experienced great prosperity, especially during the Roman Empire, and was equipped with important structures. It was severely damaged in the great earthquake of 17 AD, but was rebuilt with the support of Roman Emperor Tiberius. During this reconstruction process, the city's architecture and infrastructure were significantly improved. Tralleis rose to the status of a provincial capital during the Roman period and gained strategic importance on trade routes. One of the most striking structures of the city is the gymnasium or bath complex known as 'Üç Gözler' (Three Eyes), a monumental structure with three arches.
