Adilcevaz Castle, located in the Adilcevaz district of Bitlis, is a monumental structure rising on the enchanting shores of Lake Van in Eastern Anatolia, reaching us from the depths of the past. This castle is not merely an architectural work, but also a living witness to a multi-layered history, having seen the strategic struggles of great empires from the Urartians to the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. Although the first foundations of the castle are thought to have been laid during the Urartian era, a large portion of the remains surviving today are the product of expansions and repairs during the medieval and Ottoman periods. It is particularly known to have been extensively repaired and fortified during the reign of Sultan Selim I.
