Story
The Köroğlu Monument is an important landmark located in the center of Bolu, on the D-100 highway, at the foothills of Bolu Mountain. Dedicated to Köroğlu, one of the immortal heroes of Turkish folk literature, this monument holds a significant place in Bolu's cultural identity. Construction of the monument began in the early 1990s and was completed in 1991. This monument, reflecting Köroğlu's epic struggle and his place in the hearts of the people, was designed by sculptor Prof. Dr. Tankut Öktem. Öktem aimed to emphasize Köroğlu's bravery, his inseparable bond with his horse Kırat, and his resistance against oppression when designing the monument. The monument consists of a statue of Köroğlu standing tall on his horse Kırat, with a sword in his hand. The base of the statue is adorned with reliefs depicting various scenes and motifs from the Köroğlu epic. These reliefs visually narrate the main themes of the epic, Köroğlu's love, friendship, and his struggle against his enemies. The area where the monument is located also offers visitors a pleasant resting place and a viewing terrace with a park arrangement, allowing them to enjoy the scenery.
