Lake Abant is a landslide dam lake located approximately 34 kilometers southwest of Bolu province, on the Abant Mountains. Situated at an altitude of about 1328 meters above sea level, this lake stands out with its rich vegetation and wildlife. The formation of the lake occurred as a result of geological processes, where a landslide blocked the front of a stream valley. This natural formation forms the basis of the region's unique ecosystem. Lake Abant and its surroundings were registered as "Abant Lake Nature Park" in 1988 and taken under protection. This status aims to ensure that the natural beauty and biodiversity of the region are passed on to future generations. Within the nature park, there are tree species such as Scots pine, black pine, beech, oak, poplar, ash, willow, juniper, and various herbaceous plants. The lake is also home to fish species such as trout, carp, and the Abant trout. The Abant trout is an endemic species living only in this lake and is of great scientific importance. Mammals such as wild boar, bear, fox, jackal, rabbit, squirrel, and many bird species can be observed around the lake.
