Story
Balibey Han is located in the Osmangazi district of Bursa, within the historical Bazaar and Khans Region. Its construction began in the last quarter of the 15th century, during the reign of Bayezid II, and is thought to have been completed in the 1480s. The founder of the han was Bali Bey, one of the viziers of Fatih Sultan Mehmet and an important statesman of Bursa. Bali Bey was also a figure who had many charitable works built in Bursa. Balibey Han exhibits a beautiful example of classical Ottoman han architecture. Built as a two-story structure, the han has a large courtyard in the middle. Arcades surround the courtyard, and behind these arcades are shops. The lower floor typically housed shops used for storage and commercial activities, while the upper floor contained rooms for accommodation and offices. Cut stone and brick were used in the construction of the han, giving it a sturdy and aesthetic structure. Balibey Han, which has undergone various repairs and alterations over time, has been restored and made functional again today.
