Story
Bey Sarayı is an important structure built during the founding periods of the Ottoman Empire, when Bursa was the capital. The palace, believed to have been founded during the reign of Orhan Gazi, was also used by subsequent sultans and expanded with various additions. The palace had a simple but functional structure, reflecting the early characteristics of Ottoman architecture. It contained a divanhane (council hall), harem, kitchens, baths, and various service buildings. Bey Sarayı was not only the residence of the sultans but also a center where state affairs were conducted, ambassadors were received, and important decisions were made. After the conquest of Bursa, it functioned as the administrative and political heart of the city. However, over time, its importance diminished as the capital moved to Edirne and then to Istanbul. Very few remains of the palace have survived to the present day, as it was largely destroyed by various earthquakes, fires, and wars. Although it is difficult to obtain precise information about the exact location and original plan of the palace today, its existence and importance are understood in the light of archaeological studies and historical sources.
