The Walls of Bursa are a complex of defensive structures that encircle the historical core of the city, built during different periods. It is believed that the first walls were constructed by the Bithynians in the 2nd century BC. Repairs and additions were made during the Roman and Byzantine periods. Especially during the Byzantine Empire, the walls were strengthened and expanded due to the city's strategic location. During the Ottoman conquest of Bursa in 1326, the walls served as an important point of resistance. After the Ottomans captured the city, they continued to use parts of the walls, but over time, with the city's growth and changes in defensive technologies, the importance of the walls diminished. Today, although a large part of the walls has been destroyed or lost within the urban fabric, there are still surviving sections, especially around Tophane Park and in the Hisar region.
