Story
Demirtaş Dam is located near the town of Demirtaş in the Osmangazi district of Bursa. Construction of the dam began in the late 1980s and was completed and put into service in the early 1990s. Its primary purpose is to meet a portion of Bursa city center's drinking water needs and contribute to the irrigation of surrounding agricultural lands. The dam plays a critical role in the region's water resource management. It was designed and constructed using modern engineering techniques during its construction period. The dam lake also creates a habitat for the surrounding wildlife, becoming an important stopover and living area, especially for bird species. While the area around the dam offers suitable places for picnics and nature walks, it has not been officially designated as a recreational area. However, it is preferred by local residents as a calm and peaceful escape. Demirtaş Dam also contributes to the ecological balance of the region. Its water retention capacity and environmental impacts are regularly monitored. The construction of the dam has largely helped increase agricultural productivity in the region and ensure continuity in urban water supply.
